Welcome to the Gut… the problem…the solution!

Did you know your gut is where it all starts? If there is an imbalance in the gut (microbiome) it leads to a cascading imbalance throughout!

Don’t believe me, lets check out an example.

Have you eaten something before that has affected your mood? Maybe you are thinking to yourself, uh, I am not sure, I have actually never thought about it… hmmm… maybe she is onto something. Here is an example from my own life.

For about a month I was noticing that I would get really angry after eating breakfast, it wasn’t an every day occurrence, but was happening enough that I started to recognize it.

I decided to food journal to see if I was eating something that was causing this happy gal to become a raging maniac within an hour after eating breakfast. My findings…

I recognized that after eating maple syrup…yes 100% pure organic maple syrup I was having a Jekyll and Hyde experience. What in the world? After some testing I came to recognize that maple syrup causes an inflammatory reaction in my body and that it also affects my mood.

My gut is leaky, I have type 1 diabetes and celiac disease the junctions in our gut need to be tight so that no food particles can escape and wreak havoc on our system. Well… maple syrup was escaping and causing major issues for me.

This is one simple example lets look at another one…

Did you know that the digestive process is so specific in its’ function that if your pH is not exactly right in your stomach it will not release the food to be digested?

Yes, your stomach will continue to increase acid production until the chyme or ball of food is at the right pH and then it will release it into the small intestine for further digestion.

Well what happens when this whole digestive process is off? Many things, but remember we are looking at just one specific example… hormone production, yes that’s right ladies and gentleman if your digestive system has dysfunction it can inhibit your hormone production as well!

Hormones are produced by enzymes and if the enzymes are not being secreted properly then your hormones are not being properly produced…WHAT! Yes, I am serious! It is wild.

This is why we start in the gut, because disease and imbalance starts in the gut and wreaks havoc every where else.

  2. This gut info is so important to me. And something I’m still learning! I think this blog post is the perfect length. šŸ™‚ Informative, but also doesn’t drag on for days! I didn’t realize hormones were so tied into the digestive system, but it makes SO much sense!
